The Repsol foundation promotes good nutrition for drivers

Nine out of ten drivers think that poor eating habits can increase the risk of traffic accidents.

• This is one of the main conclusions of the study carried out by the Repsol Foundation, “The eating habits of drivers on road journeys”.

• To promote an active attitude on road journeys, a list of ten recommendations has been created.

• In collaboration with the Fundación Española de la Nutrición (Spanish Nutrition Foundation) and with the approval of the DGT, it covers ten good habits for correct nutrition on journeys.

• It will be available in the chain of Repsol service stations.

The Repsol Foundation has presented its “10 recommendations for good nutrition on road journeys”, a guide to good eating habits which will contribute to greater safety when driving and help to prevent the risk of accidents.

The list was created in collaboration with the Spanish Nutrition Foundation (FEN) and the Traffic Department (DGT) in order to promote a responsible attitude to eating habits when driving.

The presentation was attended by Enrique Locutura, Executive Vice-Chairman of the Repsol Foundation; Pere Navarro, Director of the Traffic Department (DGT); Gregorio Varela, President of the Spanish Nutrition Foundation, and Rafael Ansón, President of the Spanish Royal Academy of Gastronomy.

Enrique Locutura declared that as responsible mobility is one of the lines of research of the Foundation, the Repsol Foundation wants to disseminate and promote an active attitude in relation to eating habits while on road journeys, as this is important for safety and will contribute to safer driving.

Avoid heavy meals, rest before starting a trip, stop every two hours for a minimum rest period of ten minutes, and avoid distractions, are some of the simple recommendations in this guide.

The list will be available at the more than 1,000 service stations of the Repsol network, on national A-roads and motorways. It can also be consulted on the Repsol Foundation website www.fundacionrepsol.com and www.guiarepsol.com

Six out of ten drivers look after their nutrition on the road.

Safety on road journeys is one of the main concerns of drivers. This is what we learn from the study carried out by the Repsol Foundation “The eating habits of drivers on road journeys” in order to find out not only the eating habits but also the importance which drivers attribute to food during road journeys.

According to the study, while food is not a concern associated with journeys, 44.8% of drivers consider it to be important, and it highlights the fact that 9 out of 10 consider poor eating habits may increase the risk of accidents. Also, six out of ten drivers say they look after their nutrition when travelling.

This research is complemented by the study carried out in collaboration with the Spanish Nutrition Foundation  “Nutritional recommendations when travelling”, to determine the most suitable guidelines for eating for different journeys, taking into account different population groups, children, the elderly, pregnant women, etc., and the type of journey.
