Rafting involves using an inflatable raft to navigate river rapids heading downstream. As it is a group activity, the fun is multiplied. The Noguera Pallaresa rivers in the Pallars Sobirà area are considered the best waters for taking on this challenging sport.
Roc Roi is a winter sports and adventure school, and one of the most professional and experienced in organising whitewater activities in the area. They offer a number of programmes based on the level of experience of each participant.
One of the most popular routes is from Llavorsí to Rialp. This two-hour, 12 km trip is also one of the most spectacular.
Younger or more inexperienced adventurers can choose from other routes. Always remember to pick a route you know you can handle. In the Noguera Pallaresa, routes vary from a relatively simple trip (between Escaló and Llavorsí, 8 km) to day-long adventures, such as the route from Llavorsí to the Collegats gorge (52 km).
Basic recommendations
Always wear a protective helmet and life jacket. Paddles are necessary for manoeuvring in the rapids. When seated on the edge of the boat, your feet will be attached by belts.
It is essential to have a certified guide in the boat at all times. The guide will teach the "crew" how to manoeuvre in the rapids and safely guide the boat to its final destination.
Just show up with a swimsuit, a towel and the excitement to learn, and the organisers will provide the rest: wetsuit, life vest, water shoes, paddles, helmets, etc. Accident and health insurance is also required.
Discover a high-mountain area
El Pallars Sobirà is closely tied with the mountains. TheLa Xicoia Gastronomical Association aims to bring recognition to the unique local cuisine, known for its famous cassoletes (tarts), meat stews and fresh vegetables.
Try some of the dishes at any of the restaurants forming part of the association, such as El Pigal in Llesui (tel.: 973 621 715), the Hotel Montaña in Alins (tel.: 973 624 358) or the Hotel Els Pui in Esterri d’Àneu (tel.: 973 626 160).
